LUNCH AT THE HURRICANE

Today I met a friend at Pass-a-Grille beach for lunch at a place called the Hurricane Restaurant. They have a rooftop lounge. I took my camera, and here are a couple of pics. The little dot in the rooftop picture is a parasail. My zoom couldn't get any closer. It was HOT! I mean HEAT hot, from the sun! But the Marguaritas and groupers were good! I had to guard my food becuz the gulls will swoop down and take it right off your plate with you sitting there!
The Gulf of Mexico is calm now, but hurricane season starts today!

QUEEN OF THE HOUSE

These precious animals drive me nuts sometimes! If I get on the bed, the dog follows. The bird hears us playing, so here she comes. She climbs on the bed and attacks dog. Dog remembers previously feeling that needle beak and jumps off the bed. Bird will patrol the perimeter of the bed making sure dog does not try to sneak up again from another side. It's so funny and so amazing...that these animals are actually jealous of each other, and of my attention to each one, yet sometimes they play together ...gently...tho only with supervision. We know who the alpha animal is in this house. I myself have felt the most gentle pressure of that beak that has 300 psi capability, so I understand the dog's "fear". She can dismember a chair leg, a finger, or a dog leg in a second, if she really wanted to. And she can slash quickly with that beak. In this house, we ALL respect her. BIRDS RULE!!

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

...And we say a prayer for those that are lost and for those who are still with us, and for the persons who have lost a loved one in the military service to our country or to an act of terrorism. Have a good Memorial Day Holiday. If you want to see the other side of a Marine, check out www.Calsgallery.com See you next week!

MUSINGS

I was thinking today about the earthquake in Indonesia...how devastating it is to those people. They just got thru a Tsunami, and now this. I am so thankful that I do not live in the "Pacific Ring of Fire" fault zone. If you look at the Tectonic Map, the entire Pacific coast of the US is within that zone. It's pretty scary to me. I know I live in Hurricane Alley, but at least I can see it coming and I have time to flee.
It would be nice if we could look at the world through rose colored glasses, and not have to think about Tsunamis, or earthquakes, or hurricanes, or global warming, or animal slaughter, or child molesters, or domestic violence. If only we could all wear a hat with buttons to push that would bring only peace and love to our world and our lives. This is a 101 portrait that is a couple of weeks old, but I thought it is appropriate for today's thoughts. I hope you will pray, cross your fingers, think good vibes, what ever you do, and do it for the Indonesian people who so badly need love and hugs today.

HO HUM

Here's a leetle bit different portrait. She is made from a head I had in my stash box (thats "art" stash), watercolor paper doubled and glued together for thickness, feathers, beads, sequins, and painted and torn...and glued on....used dryer softener sheets. If nothing else, she smells good! Tired tonight, can't do a portrait. It's only 7:45, but I am already thinking "jammies"! :) Uh huh. Hope everyone has a wonderful, creative, peaceful evening.

THE PREAKNESS

TODAY, JUST PLEASE SAY A PRAYER FOR BARBARO, THAT HE WILL AT LEAST BE SAVED DURING HIS SURGERY, AND CAN LIVE A LONG PEACEFUL LIFE AS THE BEAUTIFUL STALLION HE IS.

MORE 101 PORTRAIT TRAIL DRAWINGS AND A COUPLE OTHERS

Oh sigh.........every time I start to work on a project I am doing it goes wrong and I have to tear it down and start over. Should I do it this way? Like that? Or maybe just not at all! I will be having more time to work on my art because my part-time job hours just got cut.....unexpectedly. I will look at it - like Martha says- as a "good" thing!

...another 101 portrait trail painting. I am out of w/c paper, which is mostly what I use for small work, and I am waiting for tomorrow's paper so I can get a coupon for Michaels before I buy another w/c pad. They are kind of expensive if you get the good paper, and I don't like the really, really cheap paper because it buckles and dances and rocks and annoys me. This was done in colored pencil on plain drawing pad paper, which is fine if you use a dry media. I am not real fond of colored pencil. You always have to go over it ...at least...twice. I dislike doing things twice. But.........you do whatcha gotta do!

A drawing I have titled "Friends". I don't know who they are. I saw their picture in the newspaper and cut it out becuz they look so interesting...so different from each other. One is obviously a jewish man, and the other looks like an old prospector. I knew I wanted to draw them.....so here they are. Hey guys, if you recognize yourselves, I'd love to know who you are! Drawn with pencil, sepia tone done on computer.
s
A study for St. Jerome. This original drawing was done by Albrecht Deurer, a German Renaissance painter, in 1521. I copied it for practice, in pencil, and did the sepia tone on the computer. I am such a fan of Renaissance; my heart actually gets happy and excited when I see some of the beautiful paintings from the Renaissance era, or if I go to a museum where some originals are showing, particularly Italian paintings. I have done an entire wall in one of my bedrooms in a life-size version of Sandro Botticelli's La Primavera. (You can Google it if you are not familiar with it). It has 8 life-sized figures in it, and a cherub. Of course it isn't exact, but I am not Botticelli. Hmmmmmmmm, I wonder, in a former life..................................
