DUMB DOVE

Every spring a dove tries to nest on the front porch light. Can you see her? And every spring, she has to rebuild her nest 20 times, because when we open the door, she flys, and half her nest goes to the ground. So we always have to stop using the front door for a few weeks. Well, you know, out of respect for motherhood! But....there are never babies. Always they leave an empty nest. Once there were two eggs, but they never hatched. Dumb dove!

This morning when it was still dark I had to take the dog out. On the way back thru the porch, I suddenly saw my Gerbera Daisy start to shake.....for no reason. There was no wind. I ran to get my camera because, even tho it was dark and I couldn't see, I suspected the reason. Yup! I was right. Caught........in the camera's flash! Can you see him? A little cutie!

FIRST BABY BIRD.....

This morning I saw my first Spring Baby! I was in the bedroom and heard this commotion on the awning....I thought ........"now what dumb bird is trying to walk on this hot, tilting metal awning..must be a dumb Dove"...and then I heard it. The screeeee, screeeeee, screeeee of baby calling for it's mom to bring it bugs and worms. There it was, perched on the fence, a fat, baby Mockingbird just feathered out and learning to fly, learning to hide from the crows, watching mom dig for bugs, and screeeeing for food. This is a Spring ritual here, and I love watching this family matter. Mother Mockingbirds are VERY protective, and those ol' crows better watch their black feathers!

My only claim to any art at all for the last couple of weeks, due to being so sickie, is this small glass dish I made in fused/slumped glass class just before I got the flu....made it for my friend and colored at her request very light green....and the bag to put it in when I get to see her and give it to her. The red bag is one she gave me that luscious doll in that I posted some time ago, so I am just returning the bag...full of course...and added a picture which I did in wc and bradded it to the bag. I think she will like it.

AND...after having dh once again take off his glasses and be blind for a moment to pull a name, the WINNER of Mother HeART and Baby HeART is.....................ta da...............

SURE SIGNS OF SPRING

• The Gerbera Daisy with two blooms this time, and two more coming up behind.
• Clover in the grass, blooming where it isnt supposed to be. Roll me ooooooover, in the cloooooover, roll me over, lay me down, and, um, hmmmmmmmmmm.
• The luscious Surinam cherry; the lone one is no longer there. I popped it in my mouth as soon as the picture was taken. YUM! Warm from the sun and sweet, sweet from mother nature.
• The blue Plumbago, always here, winter and summer. Bunnies like to nest beneath.
• The magnificant White Bird, from the Bird of Paradise family, showing her pristine feathers. Gorgeous!
• And the Jasmine tree, loaded with blossoms, and bees as well.

Yes, I think Spring has Sprung!!!

If I can sit here at this computer long enough to post these wonderful pieces of art, then I know I am on the mend!

First I want to thank everyone who left encouraging comments, who sent ecards, and emails. I am lucky to have met such wonderful people in this blogging world. Thank you, thank you, thank you! You know, while I was lying there in a semi stupor, thinking I'll never get over this rat's ass flu, I thought -- maybe I'll just give up blogging after this Spring HeART contest is over. But now that I'm here again, what the heck was I thinking? It musta been some kind of virus nightmare! I'm betting that by next week I'll be back right on schedule!

THE PICTURES: The elephants in the water of course belong to the very talented artist and writer Mz. Tinker. When I saw the elephants she had done, I begged for them. Being a softie, she gave them up!! Now I am the lucky owner of this super pic! I have a great deal of respect for elephants, in the way especially that the females of the tribe all band together to take care of the youngest. From a mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, distant cousin...they all look out for that baby til it can take care of itself! That's pretty amazing I think!

The other elephant pic is a card that Mz. Tinker made and sent along with the other. A Happy Spring card. Isn't she just too sweet? Tinker I mean, not the elephant. Well, the elephant too, what am I saying?

THE OTHER PICTURES are ATC's that I received from Mz. Ang. We did a funky bird trade and these are funky birds! Funny thing is, one of the ATC's I sent her was a "Do the funky chicken" and one she sent me was a "Do the funky chicken" also. Do you think there is some of that glitter girl syn-crow-nicity there?

And the HEART....What can I say about the heart? It is one of the 12 ATC's she is sending me monthly to go with the Little Blue Book - made my Ang -I purchased some time ago from Peggy at Hidden Haven's auction. I LOVE Ang's hearts! This one is very mosaic looking. It's scrumply delicious.

THANK YOU ANG, THANK YOU TINKER, AND THANK YOU AGAIN EVERYONE FOR BEING SO SWEET. NOW.......I'm getting off this computer because I'm tired of making mistakes and backspacing and retyping, etc. etc. As Arnie says...I'll be back! Geesh....I've never liked Arnie!

......... Mother HeART and her Baby HeART. They are a very glitzy family made with lots of beads and hearts and glittery fabric, a true extension of the glitter sisters! They are looking for a home. They don't like it here with the screaming dog and barking bird...um...well, yeah, that's right. They want a nice quiet place to live, not a zoo! Could they live with you? Can I? ;)

ART FESTIVAL

About the pictures: The crow, wonderful painting, is the official poster/T-shirt for the festival. Artist: Wendy Worsham

Signage just to identify the show. Booths/Tents....well, there were 300 and it took awhile. The day was overcast...absolutely NO sunshine at all...windy, cold and off and on rain. Brrrrr! Fortunately for some, their booths were under an overpass. But, we stuck it out and saw the whole show. There is also a pic of the Tampa skyline mainly to identify where the show is.

I only picked out a couple of artists to display here. I was a little disappointed in the overall festival, but the artists I am showing here were exceptional.

FIBER ARTIST Kathleen Fulmer..BEAUTIFUL work. Check out her website at www.fabricandtextileart.com It's under construction but it's going to be nice!

The

ladies (and gent) standing about....watching the passersby....they are SCULPTURES! Amazingly lifelike polycast resin and hand painted with artists oils by artist Marc Sijan

of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I could not believe the intricate work done on these sculptures. You could even see goosebumps on their "skin". Totally amazing. See the one lady with the overalls and hands in her pockets?? She is real. She stared and stared and stared! As did I. I cannot find a website for this artist, and he was way too busy for me to be asking my silly questions.

There were many other very nice displays and talented artists, but I only picked these two to show here. I did ask permission before I took pictures, and told them I would post on my blog.

The shoe booth was so crowded I couldn't get near it! Painted shoes must be the IN thing, huh?

Hope you enjoyed the show. I did! And yessir, I was a tired puppy when I got home! Seeya later!

COMING UP............

...this weekend, the annual Gasparilla Festival of the Arts in Tampa. A BIG show! I saw this preview pic in the paper (courtesy St. Petersburg Times) and just had to share. This artist is Mik Wright and I have not seen this booth before. These shoes are apparently hand made, and painted. Mik has a website also, www.thoseshoes.com and I have not been there yet! No time this a.m. for browsing. I am hoping I can go to the festival Saturday. It looks like I'd better take my checkbook.
